When you hear the word “comics”, there’s a good chance that the first two things you’ll think of are DC and Marvel, and for good reason. They are the two biggest comic publishers on the block and have created dozens of amazing stories over the years. However, they are not the only publishers around, as a few companies have risen up to produce comics independent of the big two, like Image comics and Dark Horse Comics. And in the rise of the internet, it should come as no surprise that several individuals would choose to self-publish their own comics, for various reasons, on their own website or through a crowd-funding site. Today’s subject is from the last category and stands as a fine example of independent publishing done right.
Soulfinder: Demon’s Match is a comic written by YouTuber Douglas Ernst and was illustrated by artist Timothy Lim and colorist Brett R. Smith. It was crowd-funded on Indiegogo and I did not hear about it until I heard of the announcement from JustSomeGuy. Even then I wanted to wait until I heard a review about the book due to the mediocre infamy these crowd-funding projects are known for. So, when JustSomeGuy finally released his review and gave it the thumbs-up, I decided to purchase my own copy and was not disappointed.
