Superman for all Seasons (a review)
As you would expect from a character that has been around for nearly a century, Superman has a crap ton of stories. He’s the first thing you think of when you hear the word “superhero” and has inspired several other heroes from Invincible to Homelander (it’s a spectrum). Pretty much every well-known writer and artist in the comics industry has worked on a Superman story (Alan Moore, Grant Morrison, Mike Mignola, etc.). There are plenty of amazing books to read but I’m going to look at one that I feel gives the best character study of Superman.
Superman for all Seasons is a four-issue mini-series published by DC back in 1998. It was written by Jeph Loeb and illustrated by Tim Sale, the best power couple in comics and I will fight you over this! These guys have worked on several fan-favorite projects including Batman: The Long Halloween and Spiderman Blue. They’re forte is doing stand-alone stories that sum up a particular character, providing a basis for new comic readers to leap off of.
