Understanding Solomon Kane

If you spend enough time in the comic book world, you’ll run into the name Robert E. Howard pretty quickly. Despite his short time on Earth, Howard is arguably one of the most important pillars in nerd culture. He was a pulp fiction writer back in the late 20s and early 30s who mainly published in Weird Tales magazine and is considered the father of the “sword and sorcery” genre. His most famous creation that I know you’ve heard of was Conan the Barbarian, who is still being written about to this day.
Alright, history lesson over.

One of Howard’s many creations was a character named Solomon Kane, a puritan adventurer whose stories were set in a more “historically accurate” time. While I was still in college, I stumbled across a Solomon Kane mini-series from the 80s and picked it up. I knew of him and knew that he was important in comic culture so I decided to give him a shot.
My verdict back then: Solomon Kane is a self-righteous a******.
