Guess what came in the mail the other day!

Since my review of ISOM #1 is my most read article to date, I felt a little obligated to check out the next book. Gotta give the people what they want~! If you want more information about the author and why there’s such a controversy around this series, the link to the first review is here.

Let’s get this ball rolling.

Picking up from the first issue, Avery Silman is still investigating the disappearance of Jasmine when an incident occurs back at his ranch. Two beast men somehow brake into the security office, ambush him, and set the building ablaze. No one is killed but one of the employees is missing. Putting his initial mission aside of a bit, Avery dons his new and improved suit to investigate but quickly discovers that the situation is a little bigger than he anticipated.

Kinda feels like this book’s primary purpose was to expand the ISOM universe now that Avery has come out of retirement. The initial crisis from the first book pops up here and there and the villain does go after Avery’s sister but it’s not the central focus which I’m not a fan of. However, to make up for this, we’re introduced a few new characters like Goodyng the tech genius who runs a security/PI business and Sydnee Bloodruth the sorceress/supernatural expert. Both of them have cool designs and unique abilities that contribute to the story.

I’m not entirely sure where Eric July is going with this one, but I hope it gets tied together soon.

While I liked the first book a little more, there was some good stuff in this one. We finally got to see Avery fight in his super suit and get a flashback to the inciting incident that got him to quit being a hero in the first place. I wish we saw more of Yaira but it seems like they’re gearing up for her to do something big. Plus, the introduction of the beast men was an interesting addition to the world. The art and action are still well done, and the book looks professionally done.

Still a good read and from what I can gather, there are a few tie-in books in the works that’ll probably get elaborated on soon.

Thank you for reading! What do you think of the Rippaverse? If you liked this review, please check out my review of Soulfinder and Thomas Valiant.
